Hardcore Mode

When you die, you die. Choose extra challenges for a greater test and unique rewards.

Base mode — always active

Survival rules

  • One life: if you die, the character is deleted forever.
  • No Auction House, bank, or mail, and no interaction with regular players.
  • +50% damage taken.
  • No battlegrounds or Dungeon Finder; quest XP is always x1.

The mode is chosen at character creation with the “One Chance” button. The choice can't be undone. Death Knights can't be Hardcore characters.

Ten modifiers

Eternal PvPYour PvP flag is always on. Any player of the opposite faction can attack you anywhere in the world.
Solo levelingYou can't join a group or raid. Just you and Azeroth.
Crafted gear onlyYou can only equip items made with professions.
White gear onlyYou can't equip items above Common quality.
No talent resetsYou can't reset learned talents. Choose your tree wisely.
No vendorsYou can't buy items from NPC vendors. Hunters may buy arrows and bullets.
No mountsUsing any mounts is forbidden. On foot and by flight path only.
Half XPXP from monsters and quests is cut exactly in half.
Survival modeNo Auction House, mail, or trading with other players. Complete self-sufficiency.
Starting weapon onlyOnly the weapon you received at character creation is allowed. No upgrades.

  • Title “Immortal Hero”
5+ modifiers

Five or more challenges

  • Mount “Rotting Reins of the Frozen Wastes Conqueror”
All 10 modifiers

Server Legend

  • Title “LEGEND”
  • Mount “Rotting Reins of the Bloody Conqueror” and a server-wide announcement of your feat

Death system

Permadeath

If you die, the character is deleted forever. Scripted deaths in quests don't count.

Global announcement

All players get a notification with the name, level, location, and cause of death.

Disconnect protection

On login — 10 seconds of full invulnerability in case of a crash or disconnect.
