The briefing on entry. The boss is Magnate Pipeslick; Baron Goldhewer greets you at the landing site.
  1. Find the Cartel Recruiter

He stands in Dalaran, next to the Relic Keeper and the goblin Rizli the Lucky. Talk to him.

  2. Choose how you're going in

“Enter solo” — just you. “Enter as a trio” — you need a group of exactly three real players; all three are teleported into the crater together. If there's a bot in the group, the entrance won't open.

  3. The quest is granted automatically

On entry you receive the daily quest “The Cartel Gold Rush.” Your target is Magnate Pipeslick “Golden Trickster.” The 1 h 30 min countdown has started.

  4. Fight your way to the Magnate

Along the way: Cartel goblins, their elite guards and murlocs. Every enemy drops gold.

  5. Leave and turn in the quest

The exit portal is at the landing site: walk right up to it and you'll be sent back to Stormwind or Orgrimmar. Turn the quest in to the Cartel Recruiter for 1000 gold. If time runs out first, the Cartel will toss you out to Dalaran on its own.

The Magnate keeps his distance

The boss backs off 20 yards and shoots with his rifle. Get up close and he'll answer with a ring of fire.

Take the elites one at a time

Brutes and Shredder Guards stand in groups near the foreman and the Magnate. Pull them apart if you're going solo.

Lady Vashj is at the bottom

The naga queen waits in the ruins at the very bottom of the crater. You need her for two of Baron Goldhewer's quests.

Difficulty and Tips

Solo or as a trio

Difficulty scales with the number of players. With three of you, enemies are tougher, but they also die faster — and time is limited.

Gear matters

The higher your group's average item level, the tougher the enemies — up to three times tougher. They don't hit you any harder, though.

Watch the clock

The hour and a half starts counting from the moment you enter. If the Magnate is your goal, don't waste it on every murloc in sight.

Tuesday is gold day

On Tuesdays, gold on the server is doubled. A good day for the crater.
